4 Days in Iceland's Highlands
August 20th – 23rd
THIS IS A 4 DAY MOUNTAIN BIKE ADVENTURE THAT TAKES PLACE IN SOME OF THE MOST MAGNIFICENT LANDSCAPES ON THE PLANET. THE TRAILS TRAVEL ACROSS MOSTLY REMOTE MOUNTAIN ROADS IN THE HIGHLANDS OF ICELAND.
If you love epic outdoor adventures in jaw dropping scenery, this is your tour! You get to experience astonishing landscape that keeps changing before your eyes: vast meadows topped by snow-capped volcanoes, waterfalls and endless lava fields. Accommodation will be in rustic mountain huts, along with a local mountain bike guide who bikes with the group throughout the experience, and a driver who will follow in a 4WD vehicle to transport the luggage.
DAY 1: DOMADALUR
The ride of the day is on one of the most remote mountain roads of the highlands that ends at our mountain hut. It stretches through black volcanic sands before entering the amazing Dómadalur region – characterized by smooth grass-covered mountains on one side and colorful rhyolite mountains on the other.
Part of this route which is known as Hellismannaleid passes along the edge of a moss covered lava field and a black volcanic wasteland evoking the sense of being “lost in the wilderness.”
Optional ride in the evening for those who wants to do a little more!

Ride: Distance 31 miles – Elevation gain 3100 ft
DAY 2: LANDMANNALAUGAR
This is one of the most spectacular days of the tour with a mix of double and single-track. After a few short 200m climbs we reach the volcano crater “Ljótipollur” followed by a very rewarding descent to enter the stunning Landmannalaugar area and its colorful surroundings. Bring a towel – on this leg of the trip we will find a warm natural pool to soak in.
We will ride back to our hut after the bath or we use the option to get picked up by our 4×4 jeep.

Ride: Distance 24.8 miles – Climbing 4500 ft
DAY 3: FJALLABAK SOUTH
Today ‘s ride begins with a steep climb up to Hrafntinnusker, named after the obsidian rocks found there, followed by on one of the most exciting double tracks of the highlands. Then again along a mountainous road that leads to our hut placed in a hidden valley behind the glacier of Tindfjallajökul.

Ride: Distance 28 miles – Climbing 3182 ft
DAY 4: EMSTRUR
During our last day we ride a fantastic mountain road that leads to a trail by the canyons of the Markarfljót River. As we pedal along, we´ll enjoy magnificent views of stunning glaciers all around us. We´ll continue pedalling towards the south coast, through the incredible area of Emstrur, following Markafljot Canyon to reach the farmland at Fljótshlíð valley.

Ride: Distance 28 miles – Climbing 2,560 ft
The Biking Adventure in the Highland is rated as moderate to challenging for decently skilled mountain bikers used to physically demanding routes with basic off-road riding skills.
The adventure level is high on this trip and riders can expect 5+ hours in the saddle daily. As you know, the fitter you are the more fun you’ll have.
Accommodations will be in authentic lodges located in remote locations.
They offer comfortable and roomy kitchens, and a large dining room. The group stays together in the same section with shared bathrooms and electricity.
These huts are the only form of accommodations in the Highlands.

- Kingdom Cycling Master Instructor Guide(s) and local staff (driver and guide) for 4 days
- All transports during the trip and assistance vehicle to carry the luggage
- 3 nights in dormitories in a mountain huts with shared bathroom
- All meals and snacks from breakfast on day 1 to lunch on day 4
